Cuba’s Minister of Public Health to Discuss His Nation’s Progress

In Prevention of STDs, Especially AIDS

Washington, DC – Dr. Roberto Morales, Cuba’s Minister of Public Health, will discuss Cuba’s program for preventing sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV AIDS, at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on July 1.

A committee of independent experts assembled by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) which visited Cuba in March to analyze the island nation’s progress in eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis. Cuba is the first country in the world to initiate a formal validation process for these diseases.

This Newsmakers news conference is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1^st at 10 a.m. in the club’s Zenger Room, on the 13^th Floor of the National Press Building at 529 14th St., NW, Washington, D.C.

Like all Newsmakers events, this news conference is open to credentialed media and NPC members, free of charge. No advance registration is required.

Roland Branford Productions will be presenting the play Margherita at several Northern Virginia venues this fall. Maggie Bush will be doing the role of Margherita, while James Howard appears as Benito Mussolini. James McDaniel portrays Colonel Klemmer and Bonnie Jourdan is Victoria Bullock. Beatrix Whitehall is designer. Roland Branford Gomez directs. Separately, Browne-Nederlander LLC has been promoting a Broadway production of the play.
