THE AGONY OF DAVID by Anthony E. Gallo .October 29 2012, 7:30 PM Lincolnia Center, Fairfax, Virginia . . This two-act tragedy of faith and sin is totally based on the life of David, second king of Israel, and pivotal to the two Davidic religions, Christianity and Judaism. David, once a shepherd boy and now the mighty King of Israel, rules the entire region after being crowned King of Israel in 1010 BCE.  He has put together a kingdom against all odds.  Even his enemies admit that he is God’s chosen. But this providentially endowed military and political genius, poet, spiritualist, harpist, sportsman, and dancer is beset by tragedy.  This husband of eight carefully chosen wives and father of seventeen children has proven to be a less than satisfactory father and husband, and while called upon to be the first to create a kingdom for God on earth, has incurred   wrath.  His is a life of faith and struggle reflected by conflicts with his God, political and military enemies,   family of origin, King Saul, wife Micah, and  children  Amnon, Abijah, Tamar, and Absalom.  THE AGONY OF DAVID attempts to show how ultimately David must face the tragic consequences of his decisions   but in the end is sustained by a remarkable faith and strength of inner character: No charge.  Agallo2368@verizon.netor 202 544- 6973 Questions:Agallo2368@verion.net or Lincolnia Center 4710 N Chambliss St, Alexandria, VA 22312(703) 914-0223 Cross Streets: Between and Beauregard St

Hi:

At the end of last year, I signed an agreement to have the Nederlander Browne Group work with me to bring Margherita to Broadway early next year.

As one of my long-time supporters, I need your help to get it produced. Together we can make a commitment to actually see Margherita on Broadway.

This is what I am asking help on and this is what we get back for our efforts:

- We need to raise $275,000 to produce the show and open it on Broadway.

o The investment basic unit is $25,000, but a unit can be shared by a group of investors ( there are a couple of ways of doing this) and of course you can purchase as many whole units as you desire.

- Investors get their investment back first (we call this recoupment). Then profits are split 50% to the investors and 50% to the producers.

o The average show on Broadway sells about 80% of its seats. My show would breakeven on a weekly basis if we sold only 60% of the seats and show a profit of almost $20,000 a week if we sold 80% of the seats.

o There are many perks for investors, which include acknowledgement in advertising, programs, etc. for larger investors and opening night tickets and parties (in NY and DC); access to house seats and meet and greets with cast and creative team (also in NY and DC) for all investors.

Attached to this email is more information about the show, and important financial information, like a breakdown of where the money goes on pages 6-8.

Investing in shows can be an interesting, exciting and lucrative proposition.

I can give you access to my partners, who can help you learn more about investing on Broadway, and help you to decide if to help me bring Margherita to Broadway next year.

Call Tony Gallo at 202-544-6973 or David Groelinger at (212) 822-4200 for information and send funds to David Groelinger at Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment

Review of Lincoln and God At GAC 2012

Abraham Lincoln, Prophet, Is Theme of GAC Play

by Carol Griffith   Greenbelt News Review

A Review

Intelligent and entertaining, dramatic and detailed – all are descriptions of “Lincoln and God,” the latest play by Anthony Gallo now showing at the Greenbelt Arts Center. This is Gallo’s third and best-yet production at GAC.

Was Abraham Lincoln a human messenger of God? A prophet? What was his relationship with his God? These are the questions the play explores through showing how Lincoln related to family members – even those who opposed his politics, to his staff and to the clergyman with whom he developed a close friendship. Gallo, who has clearly done a considerable amount of research into Lincoln’s life and  associations, has unearthed a number of historical figures and events that, though largely lost to history, played a role in Lincoln’s life. The scenesand characters flow so easily, the play is thoroughly engrossing and entertaining.  The play begins its chronology shortly after Lincoln’s first inauguration as he debates his Confederacy-sympathizing brother- in-law (played by Pat Martin), offering him a position to no avail in the Union Army. Soon he is visited by the Reverend Phineas Densmore Gurley, pastor of the (still-standing) New York Avenue Presbyterian Church (played beautifully by David Weaver). Their debates about God, religion and life are among the best scenes. Lincoln called for Gurley’s advice at difficult times during his terms as president and their imagined conversations are  Intelligent and entertaining,

Their debates about God, religion and life are among the best scenes. Lincoln called for Gurley’s advice at difficult times during his terms as president and their imagined conversations are insightful. One of the most touching scenes finds Lincoln and a critical Gurley participating in a séance conducted by a known charlatan, to appease Mary Todd Lincoln as she grieves the loss of her two sons.

Gettysburg Address

James McDaniel shows Lincoln’s humanity well. His dramatic reading of the Gettysburg

Address is spine-tingling. As Nico Hay, Lincoln’s assistant, Mark Mueller gives a great performance.

And special kudos to Shirl Weaver for stepping into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln on a two-hour notice on opening night and carrying it off so beautifully.

Artomatic Festival 2011 presents a new film.  Charleston Revisited.   Carl Cordell Film Theater Saturday, June 2   12 to 2 PM.    Screenplay by Anthony E. Gallo, Film Editing by Matt Lolich Cinematography by Albert Liesegang   Directed by Roland Branford Gomez.  Starring Bonnie Jourdan, Colin Davies, Mellicent Singham, Jon Forbes.   People of the past appear in various forms in this two-act mystery-comedy set on Logan Street in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina’s renowned Historic District.  Indomitable Charleston matron Charlotte Butler raises thousands of flowers to the hum of classical music, cultivates birds, plays championship bridge, ballroom dances, sometimes cleans her own house, and spars with both her parrot Jacob and  flighty  neighbor Ginny (Gin) Middleton.  Gin's latest flame is the distinguished former New Hampshire Senator Mark Smythe, now an Archdale Street resident,  who appears to have a curious interest in Charlotte.  When Gin has to cancel one of her dates with Mark because of an emergency in Savannah, he slips in and visits Charlotte.  The visit proves to be more than one of mere curiosity, as we discover that these two unique people have much in common.  Charlotte makes Mark accompany her to St. Phillip’s Cemetery at night where they encounter someone she does not want to see.  THE SEVENTH STREET PLAYHOUSE PRESENT

A staged reading of

 PAUL

With Ancient Jewish Music

By

Anthony E. Gallo

GREENBELT ARTS CENTER     MONDAY MAY 14   8 PM   TICKETS $5

This play examines the complex and contradictory life of Christianity’s second leading theological architect through his Epistles, from Romans to Titus, and the writings of Josephus. Paul’s impact not only on the now two billion Christians around the world but tangentially on non-Christians as well is not disputed. The play follows him from being a deeply religious Jewish leader, successful businessman, civic leader, and persecutor of fringe cults to becoming an apostle of the Nazarean following his epiphany on the road to Damascus. The narrative traces his conflicts with members of the new cult, then with his fellow disciples, the Romans, Greeks, Jewish leaders, his own family and friends, and the people he tries to convince. It asks if Paul’s spiritual conversion also resulted in personal character conversion. Located In The Historic Greenbelt Arts Center -The Nation’s First Shopping Center-1937.

Cast:  Jan Forbes, Tarpley Long, Mellicent Singham, David Weaver, John Miller, Bruce Smith,  James McDaniel, Colin Davies, Shirl Weaver, Bruce Brennan, Jonathan Gadsden, Mark Mueller, Dana Hickox,  Sherman McDaniel, Bruce Smith.  Zunny Metama,  Mark Mueller, Sound by Beatrix Whitehall.

Margherita at State Department

Margherita performed at United States Department of State in Dean Acheson Auditorium. New York City production with Browne Nederlander to follow.

Dear Tony- It was nice to meet the cast today, in what I think is a very delightful play. Light and airy, like only a romance story can be, surprisingly makes politics take a step back. The leading lady is fantastic at what she does. i am sorry for those who missed an hour of good, historical, sophisticated and civilized entertainment ( for free ), simply because they did not get the word in time? However, you should know that audiences at DOS are never guaranteed, especially when there are other competing events going on in the building. We are looking forward to Part II. Please e-mail me the flyer as soon as you have it ready, so that I can help circulating them in peripheral areas of Foggy Bottom. Cheers, and thank you very much for bringing your art to our midst. two-act drama about a cruise on a small exclusive cruise ship, The Botticelli,
which sails around the east coast of Africa along the warm Indian
Ocean . Bernard Sheed Phillips, late forties, is taking his
fortieth cruise. Boo, now on her tenth cruise, early forties ,five times

, scotch, bourbon, martinis, but anything will do. And Arthur, the
accommodating Somalian waiter is very obliging toward both. They seem to like
him too. Bernard proclaims he’s more than one person. She enjoys being on deck
and reading her favorite novelist and philosophic guru, J. B. Roehard. Bernard
likes her legs. Arthur seems secretive. They cruise toward dangerous ports with

Seventh Street Playhouse Board Member filmed in 2011 Academy Award Documentary

Congratulations are in order! Seventh Street Playhouse Board member Robert Trifiletti was filmed in the 2012 Academy Award nominated film “Best Short Documentary” God is the Bigger Elvis, a film about Mother Dolores Hart. She is Prioress of the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut and she has a new claim to fame: Oscar nominee.

This short documentary film about her journey from Hollywood starlet to cloistered Catholic nun, received an Academy Award nomination for best short documentary film. Running 37 minutes long, God is the Bigger Elvis was directed by Rebecca Cammisa and Julie Anderson, and is one of five nominees in the Documentary Short Film category. The documentary will be aired on HBO in April. Robert has maintained a forty-two year friendship with Mother Dolores, corresponding and visiting the Abbey regularly.

Dolores Hart is an American Roman Catholic nun and former Broadway and Hollywood actress. Nominated for a Tony in 1959, she made 10 films in 5 years, playing opposite Stephen Boyd, Montgomery Clift, George Hamilton and Robert Wagner, having made her movie debut with Elvis Presley in Loving You (1957) . Miss Hart at that time gave up an engagement and a movie contract to enter a longer lasting relationship and contract. She took her final vows in 1970 and chants in Latin eight times a day. She has also taken the lead in raising awareness for peripheral idiopathic neuropathy disorder, a neurological disorder that afflicts many Americans, including herself.

Robert adeptly produced Margherita at the Harvard Club of Boston on Commonwealth Avenue in 2009. Seventh Street Playhouse Actors Helen Mary Ball (Margherita), James Howard (Benito Mussolini), Brian Doyle(James Bullock) Julian Ball (Narrator), and I were graciously hosted by Bob and Maria at their beautiful Newton Center home and what superb Italian Cuisine! And his wife Maria(Lombardo) was just appointed Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation!!

Robert will be attending the Academy Award Ceremonies on February 26 for the fifth consecutive year. Impressive indeed!

We (Eastern Market Studios) have nearly completed the shooting of our first film Charleston Revisited, based on my stage play of the same name. Director Roland Branford Gomez, Cinematographer Albert Liesegang, Editor Matt Lolich, Actors Bonnie Jourdan, Colin Davies, Jan Forbes, Mellicent Singham and the entire cast and crew will be rooting for “God is the Greater Elvis” while having our own dreams of grandeur.
